History

How it all Began…

Colon Screening for Life’s first run/walk was held in April, 2007. It was the shorter distance of 2.2 miles, was held around the lake behind Cracker Barrel on one of the coldest days of the year! I mean frigid cold! We ran the whole production out of a tent and used hot air blowers to try and keep warm and to keep our hands from going numb. Which by the way, didn’t help much. We had about 250 brave, cold participants and 25 volunteers. I have to admit that after that initial run I thought it was our first and last. But, as long as the need to educate and bring awareness to the Tri-State community about the importance of colon cancer screening still exists and we see the passionate people who come out to our events every year, we continue our mission. So here we are, celebrating our 10 year anniversary with three “Shake Your Booty Dances and the second largest 5K Run/Walk in the city under our belt. Over the past 10 years, we have grown to become Colon Screening for Life, Inc., a non-profit 501c(3) organization, a 5K with over 1000 participants and have traveled to finally land at our home, Old National Bank, Downtown Evansville. All this, because a doctor passionate about his profession and colon cancer prevention who is an avid runner and his personal fitness instructor who was passionate about healthy lifestyles put their heads together to start the Colon Screening for Life 5K Run/Walk!

And the rest is history…
